Our Church has embarked in a journey of reflection on how we “Walk Together” with one another, not only in our parishes, but also in our communities.
We have been asked to reflect and offer our perspectives on the fundamental question of this Synod:
A synodal Church, in announcing the Gospel, “journeys together.” How is this “journeying together” happening today in your local Church? What steps does the Spirit invite us to take in order to grow in our “journeying together"?
At Christ the King, we consulted with our parish community through a group consultations process both in person and through individual submissions. Through this process each of us was given the opportunity to express:
how our Church body, at the local and broader level could better respond to our community, and
what impact the community wants the Church to have on their lives and the community around us
We would like to extend our thanks to everyone participating in the initial stage of the Synod consultation process. With a special thank you to our friends, family members and neighbours that took their time to walk with us in through this part of the process.
A document summarizing our initial parish consultation can be found here.
We are now embarking on the next phase of the Synod... Responding... both as Parish and as part of the larger Catholic Church Body.
As a Parish - We await the 2024 release of the apostolic exhortation on synodality by Pope Francis, however, we are moving forward on areas that need local parish attention. In October of 2023, parishioners are invited to partake in a survey to aid in developping how our parish will come together to complete God's mission through spiritual growth, fellowship, and community in the future. We will provide an update on survey findings in 2024.
As part of the larger Catholic Church Body - Our 2021 Parish Synod Consultation Summary was forwarded onto the Archdiocese of Regina on May 9th, 2022. This document and reports from parishes, groups, and individuals across the Archdiocese have been compiled into a report and revised on the Archdiocesan Synod Gatherin on Saturday, May 28th, 2022. The Archdiocese's document was sent to the Assembly of Western Catholic Bishops where it was incorporated into a Western Canada synthesis. The gathering and synthesis of input from dioceses across the globe have continued into 2022 and 2023.
In October 2023, the Synod of Bishops are gathering in Rome to produce a final document.
In 2024, Pope Francis will issue an apostolic exhortation on synodality.
2024 and into the future, dioceses around the world will begin to impliment the recommendations of the synod.
More information on the global process Rome is following and a copy of the archdiocesan report can be found here.
